Accessibility

MOVIDA strives to make the project more accessible for the artists and audience. On our website, we use alt tags on images to make the content screen-reader friendly. For the physical venues, we are currently working on improvement. Therefore, the accessibility differs across the host institutions. In this page, you can find detailed information about what we can offer to the artists and visitors.

For artists applying for the open call: the information below covers what each institution can offer. Nevertheless, part of the residency may take place in a studio not listed below, and therefore, if you have specific needs or questions, please feel free to contact us at movida.dance.eu [at] gmail.com

For visitors: if you have specific needs or questions for a visit, please consult the information below, or feel free to contact us at movida.dance.eu [at] gmail.com

UNATC

UNATC is committed to creating an inclusive academic and artistic environment that supports students, staff, and visitors with disabilities. In recent years, the university has implemented several measures aimed at improving physical accessibility, access to information, and inclusive educational practices across its facilities. Through dedicated projects financed by the Romanian Ministry of Education (CNFIS-FDI 2024 and 2025), UNATC has implemented targeted improvements to physical infrastructure, digital resources, assistive technologies, and awareness programs.

Physical Access and Infrastructure

The main building, located at 75-77 Matei Voievod Street in Bucharest, offers ground-level access and ongoing enhancements for mobility with recently implemented accessibility improvements, as follows:

  • Maintenance and adaptation of the elevator to improve access for wheelchair users;
  • Installation of tactile warning strips on entrance steps and tactile guidance paving at the university entrance for people with visual impairments;
  • Acquisition of Braille informational signage for the main lecture halls and university spaces;
  • A dedicated computer station in the university library equipped with JAWS screen-reading software and a Braille keyboard, available for students with visual impairments or dyslexia;
  • Acquisition of an illuminated magnifying device with focused lighting for low-vision users;
  • Acquisition of professional audio equipment to support the recording of accessible audio materials for visually impaired students and audiences;
  • Addition of open captions (subtitles) to several student short films to improve accessibility for deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences;
  • Romanian Sign Language training modules offered for students, particularly within pedagogical and community/therapeutic theatre programmes;
  • Psychological counseling, professional orientation workshops, and scholarship support available for students with special educational needs.

The International Centre for Research and Education in Innovative Creative Technologies (CINETic), located at 3B Tudor Arghezi Street, is a modern research facility of UNATC, focused on digital interaction, new media, and interdisciplinary artistic technologies. As a relatively recent addition to UNATC’s infrastructure, it benefits from improved accessibility standards – wheelchair-accessible ramp, lavatoriy and elevator.

While some older architectural elements of the university present limitations, the institution works to minimize barriers and can provide personalized assistance upon request.

Programs, Events, and Awareness

UNATC regularly organizes ”Săptămâna Diversității” (Diversity Week) in early December, featuring performances, workshops, talks, and relaxed/low-stimulus activities to promote empathy and combat stereotypes. Artistic productions (theatre performances and films) are progressively being made more accessible. The university encourages early contact for specific needs, including companion access, and adapted participation in classes, rehearsals or public events.

CNDB

The building we work in was used as a carpet laundry before the CNDB changed its function to a performance hall, and the original architecture limits our possibilities to make the space more inclusive. However, with the help of CNDB staff, the space can be accessed by people with physical disabilities if requested in advance. Vehicles can park in front of the courtyard, and the few meters to the entrance of the space can be walked on a flat, obstacle-free surface. The building is accessible at ground level and almost barrier-free. The auditorium and toilets are on the ground floor. In order to make your visit possible, please contact us in advance at office@cndb.ro.
